The Hackathon ‘Power the Change’ aims to stimulate and realize sustainable projects that exploit the opportunities arising from new technologies in the fields of energy, environment, and water.

Specifically, it proposes five challenges:

  • District heating: for the design of sustainable projects that explore new technologies and strategies to maximize the functional mix in heating networks of renewable energy sources or the integration of heat from industrial recovery.
  • Water resource: to find innovative solutions for an optimal and sustainable management of water resources and improve the efficiency and resilience of hydropower generation.
  • Energy Communities: For a reflection on Renewable Energy Communities in Universities, reflect on the actors and elements involved and how electric mobility could be included in this scenario and with what benefits.
  • Universities: to harness technology in the creation of greener, safer, and more inclusive campuses while promoting environmental awareness and active participation.
  • Textile waste: for innovative solutions that promote the exchange and recycling of clothes within the University, as well as raising awareness among the university community (and beyond) about the environmental and social impact of the sector.

Applications will be open from 19 March to 19 April 2024. It will be possible to apply in teams of up to six people; after a screening phase of the submitted projects, the University will admit a maximum of 120 participants.

During the two days of work at the Sant’Agostino and Pignolo sites, the teams will work under the guidance of professional tutors and mentors who have gained experience and knowledge in relation to the green and circular economy in business and academia. A jury will decide the winners.

‘Power the change’ is organized by the University of Bergamo, in cooperation with a2a and Tondo, a company with consolidated experience in organizing hackathons.
